The Member of Parliament of Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has expressed his concerns about the current state of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Speaking in an interview on UTV on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, Assafuah, who is also a lawyer, stated that the present condition of the party no longer resonates with him or other young individuals who were once drawn to it due to its appeal to the youth.

According to him, the party needs to undertake reforms and revamp its national executives by bringing in individuals, especially the youth, who have the party’s best interests at heart and are capable of enforcing the necessary changes to help strengthen its core.

“… I don’t know what came over our people and I believe that in the future, we should have a very strong party with strong national executives who can address issues with just a phone call. I think we need to beef up the strength of our national executives and structure. We need strong people.

“If you don’t speak up on the truth, you cannot do things well. The young ones in the party feel that it is our time to make sure we build the party. If you don’t speak truth to power, we cannot have our party the way we want it. This is not the party some of us knew. During our university days, we saw some of the leaders and we believe that we have a way to deal with it,” he said.

Vincent Assafuah further recounted how some individuals appointed to state institutions by the former government prioritised their personal interests over those of the party.

According to him, these individuals were selfish, failing to support the youth and grassroots members of the NPP.

He stated how such instances fueled anger, disappointments, and frustrations among the young people in the party, who felt neglected by their leaders.

This, he said, led to the creation of divisions and factions within the party.

The lawmaker passionately appealed to party members to rise above politics of hate and division, urging them to work together to rebuild and restore the party to its glorious state in order to appeal to the masses.

“… Forget about any ambitions that you have. Whether you are a supporter of Bawumia or Kennedy Agyapong, we are not interested in that. The young people in this party are not interested in that kind of contest. Let’s build our party from the scratch and let the young people who are now feeling a hopeless situation and crestfallen take charge. This time, when we see people insulting party leaders, we won’t keep quiet about it. We masses want the party to look good,” he appealed.
