Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member, Wilfred Osei Kweku Palmer, has commended the appointment of Desmond Ofei to the newly restructured Black Stars technical team.

Following Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the GFA made adjustments to the coaching staff ahead of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

As part of these changes, Desmond Ofei, who recently guided the Black Satellites to gold at the 13th African Games, has been appointed as the first assistant coach, replacing Joseph Laumann.

Reacting to Ofei’s appointment, Osei Kweku Palmer spoke highly of his capabilities in an interview with , saying, “I have known Desmond Ofei for a long time, and I know he is good enough to be part of the Black Stars technical team.

“I wanted him to coach Tema Youth while he was in Belgium, but it couldn’t materialize,” he added.

Meanwhile, John Paintsil retains his position as the second assistant coach, with Fatau Dauda continuing as the team’s goalkeepers’ trainer.

The restructuring also includes experienced German coach Winfried Schäfer, a 2002 AFCON winner with Cameroon, who has been appointed as the technical advisor and football director for both the Black Stars and the GFA.

Additionally, Kris Perquy has been named the team psychologist, while Gregory De Grauwe will take on the role of video analyst.
