General Secretary of NDC, Fifi Kwetey
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Kwetey, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of turning the Appointments Committee of Parliament into a platform for political vendetta, rather than a forum for assessing the competences of nominees.
Speaking on NewDay on TV3, on Monday, February 10, 2025, he stated that the NPP is using the committee as an avenue to settle personal scores, particularly against individuals who played significant roles in the last election.
Fifi Kwetey noted that such actions do not serve the best interests of the country.
“Our friends in the NPP need to appreciate that the way to revive their fortunes is not to reduce the Appointments Committee into an arena for vendetta. They believe this is their opportunity to use the committee to settle scores, especially with people they perceive to have played key roles in making things difficult for them politically ahead of the election,” he asserted.
He recounted his personal experience in 2009 when he was nominated as deputy finance minister, claiming the NPP made it a point to frustrate his approval process due to his role as a key communicator of the NDC, during the campaign at that time.
“This is something the NPP unfortunately loves to do. When they lose elections, they get angry and go after those they believe were strong in that election. It tends not to be about a nominee’s capacity to perform but about past political statements and allegiances,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Minority Caucus in Parliament has announced a temporary withdrawal from the Ad-hoc Committee investigating the recent vetting chaos, alleging bias on the part of Chairman Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah.
