Attorney General has dropped charges against Dr. Asiama
Member of Parliament (MP) for Tano North, Dr Gideon Boako has, on behalf of the Minority in Parliament, called on President John Dramani Mahama to ensure the legal suit against the newly appointed Governor of Bank of Ghana resumes.
Dr. Gideon Boako found it distasteful the president’s decision to drop the charges against Dr. Johnson Asiama and appoint him to head the Central Bank.
Speaking on the “Kokrokoo” morning show on Peace FM, he alluded to Dr. Asiama’s case pending in court whereby he has been charged with financial-related crimes.
Dr. Gideon Boako explained that the president, upon appointing the new Governor, had subsequently dropped the charges.
He also narrated that Dr. Asiama was jointly sued with former finance minister, Dr. Kwabena Duffour, Dr. Kofi Amoabeng, Chief Executive of the defunct UT Bank and two others.
He therefore wonders why Asiama should be left off the hook while the others continue to stand trial.
To him, the Minority seeks for Asiama’s case to be dealt with conclusively saying “Just as the four persons including Kwabena Duffour, Amoabeng of UT Bank, have their cases pending in court, we sent them together with Asiama to court, it behoves President Mahama to allow Asiama’s case to continue in court and if the court acquits him, then we all can have the hope and guarantee that the person who is in charge of Ghana’s purse is innocent”.
Meanwhile, the Minority has admonished Dr. Johnson Asiama to refrain from engaging in any activities at the Bank of Ghana (BoG) until his nomination as the Governor is approved by the Council of State.
