Okatakyie Afrifa, a renowned media personality in Ghana, has finally revealed the truth behind his sudden departure from Angel FM, the country’s leading radio station. Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Afrifa shared the reasons that led to his termination, leaving many Ghanaians stunned.
Afrifa explained that his troubles began when he began speaking out against the country’s widespread galamsey (illegal mining) activities. He claims that some powerful individuals involved in the galamsey scandal orchestrated his removal from the station. According to Afrifa, criticizing the wrongdoings in Ghana, especially galamsey, made him a target of influential figures. “When you speak against what is wrong, some people in high positions will come after you,” he remarked. Despite facing such pressures, Afrifa stood firm in his commitment to expose the corruption linked to galamsey, which he believes is severely damaging the nation.
In addition to the claims of a deliberate campaign to oust him, Afrifa highlighted that his reputation remains untainted despite the challenges he has faced. Reflecting on his career, he questioned why no one had ever sued him in his nine years of working in both radio and television. “If what I did was wrong, why hasn’t anyone taken legal action against me?” he asked.
Afrifa also addressed an incident when a group of individuals allegedly stormed Angel FM, reportedly with the intention to intimidate him. He clarified that these individuals were not members of the Ga tribe, as some had suggested, but were linked to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He emphasized that the event was politically motivated and dismissed rumors that he had fled in fear.
Afrifa’s courage and commitment to exposing truth despite the challenges have made him a respected figure in Ghana’s media landscape. His story highlights the risks faced by journalists in the country who dare to speak out against corruption.
