New Patriotic Party Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah
The New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Director of Communications, Richard Ahiagbah, has said the disruptive behavior of National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters in the Ablekuma North constituency is the reason for Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh’s divisive remarks.
Annoh-Dompreh had urged NPP supporters in Ablekuma North to stand by their party representatives when they clashed with NDC members.
Speaking to a group of party supporters during the NPP caucus leadership’s visit to Akua Afriyie, the party’s parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, Annoh-Dompreh stated: “If indeed you are a member of the NPP and you see your fellow party member fighting a member of the NDC, join your party member to beat the NDC member.”
In addition to warning that the NPP would not tolerate any further delays, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP accused the NDC of deliberately obstructing the Electoral Commission (EC) from completing the collation process.
Speaking on Channel One Newsroom, Ahiagbah emphasized that the government and other stakeholders must address the underlying causes of the current election-related issues.
“This whole election in Ablekuma North is problematic, and I believe it should concern all of us, including the president, because the EC has called on the government to provide adequate security for them to continue, collate, and conclude the election.
“So really, the conversation around the Minority Chief Whip should not be the main issue,” a report by citinewsroom.com quotes him as saying.
He stressed that the disruption by NDC supporters has made it more difficult to conclude the election.
“The question is, why haven’t we concluded this election? It is because NDC supporters in the constituency are disrupting the process.
“The IGP is not fulfilling his duty, as directed by the High Court, to provide security for the election to be concluded. For me, those are the key issues,” he explained.
