President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama has tasked newly appointed Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, with the responsibility of reviving Ghana’s sports sector, which he described as being in a state of disarray.

Addressing the minister, John Dramani Mahama expressed his concerns about the current state of sports in the country, calling it unacceptable for a nation with Ghana’s sports pedigree. He urged Kofi Adams to inject transparency, professionalism, and modern management practices into the sector.

“You have the monumental task of restoring Ghana’s sports to its place in Africa and world sports. The shambles that is Ghana Sports today is unacceptable. For a country with our pedigree, I expect that you inject transparency, professionalism and modernity into the management of the sector,” John Dramani Mahama stated.

President John Dramani Mahama further emphasized the need to develop all sporting disciplines rather than focusing solely on football. However, he pointed out that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) would be a good place to begin reforms, with the ultimate goal of restoring the Black Stars to their former glory.

“I expect that you concentrate on building up all the sports disciplines and I know that the GFA will be a good place to start. We have to work to return black stars to it glory days” he added.

The call for reforms comes at a time when Ghanaian sports fans have raised concerns over poor performance of the teams and management, lack of infrastructure, and declining performance in various disciplines. Many will be watching closely to see how Kofi Adams tackles these challenges in his new role as minister.
