Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his 40th birthday in typical fashion – by focusing on his fitness before a glitzy party.
The Portuguese icon reached the milestone earlier this week and still shows no sign of slowing down as he continues to plunder goal after goal for Al-Nassr. And it appears that he has no intention to stop just yet after revealing his birthday plans.
Typically, Ronaldo shared an image of him donning a pair of £4,000 compression boots, intended to help recovery and optimise athletic performance. He spent a session in the boots at his Saudi Arabian home.
But Ronaldo still made sure to toast his 40th birthday in style afterwards. The veteran forward shared a series of photos on Instagram alongside family and friends including long-term partner Georgina Rodriguez.
He had swapped the compression boots for a smart suit jacket and a t-shirt. Alongside the photos, he wrote: “Thank you all for the amazing birthday messages! Had a great day with family and friends, couldn’t wish for anything better.”
It wasn’t just Ronaldo’s nearest and dearest that celebrated his birthday alongside him. He was also given a custom-made cake by his current club Al-Nassr as he arrived into training, alongside five cake versions of the Ballon d’Or.
The cake was in the colours of the Saudi club, with pictures of Ronaldo throughout his career covering it. He was videoed arriving at training with his Al-Nassr teammates including Jhon Duran singing.
Despite that, some have claimed that Ronaldo has ‘no life’ due to his commitment to training. Speaking to Canal 11, he said: “If you say to me ‘do you still like training?’ I still like training. Is it the same as I felt when I was 20? No, it’s not the same.
“But I still feel the passion. Of doing a finishing training, of being there competing with others, left foot, right foot. I still like it.
“And it’s strange, there are a lot of my friends who say ‘you have no life’. It’s true, but I like it. I know it will end. In a year, or two, or three. I don’t know. And I don’t care either.”
Al-Nassr were not the only side to toast Ronaldo’s birthday, with former club Real Madrid also sending him a touching message. The Spanish giants wrote: “Dear Cristiano, from Real Madrid, we want to send you our warmest wishes on your 40th birthday.
“Every Madridista is proud of the legend that you are and what you represent for our history. Have a great day with your family and loved ones.”
