Gary Neville makes bold Liverpool vs Tottenham prediction for ’emotional, mad night’

Gary Neville believes Liverpool will be knocked out of the Carabao Cup despite being his favourites vs Spurs.

The Reds welcome Ange Postecoglou’s side to Anfield on Thursday night for the second-leg of their semi-final clash. And Liverpool have some work to do should they want to reach Wembley.

They are 1-0 down ahead of Thursday’s game after Lucas Bergvall’s goal in North London. And while Neville believes that Liverpool are favourites to progress, he has a sneaky suspicion that Spurs will reach the final.

He said: “I think Tottenham. I think Tottenham are going to get a draw. I don’t know how they’re going to get a draw at Anfield, but I feel like it’s going to be an emotional, mad night where something happens.

“Postecoglou said earlier on in the season… I’m maybe not hanging my hat on what he’s saying entirely, but I’ve just got a feeling Tottenham…I’ve got a feeling Tottenham could win the Carabao Cup this season.

“And I’ve got a feeling that, to be fair, they’re always going to have to come through a moment like this. It will be absolute Liverpool favourites, but I feel somehow Tottenham are going to get a draw by hook or by crook.”

And should Neville’s prediction be correct, that would see Tottenham tee-up a clash with Newcastle at Wembley. Eddie Howe’s men overcame Spurs’ North London rivals on Wednesday evening, winning 2-0 on the night to seal a 4-0 aggregate success.

Explaining him and his side’s approach to Thursday evening’s game, Liverpool boss Slot said: “Even if we go 1-0 down in the league or whatever tournament we are in, we try and want to win the game.

“That’s also what we tried in the away game against Tottenham – I think we were quite close to getting a result over there until the last few seconds, we were down to 10 and conceded a goal.

“Nothing changes for this game compared to others. If you wear this shirt, if you go out at Anfield, there is only one thing that is expected of you – and that’s winning the game.”

Away from Thursday’s clash, both Liverpool and Tottenham will be back in cup action over the weekend regardless of the result. The Reds take on struggling Plymouth in the FA Cup fourth round, while Spurs entertain Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
