Former General Manager of Nsoatreman FC, Eric Alagidede, has urged football administrators in Ghana to focus on fundamental issues affecting the Ghana Premier League, citing a lack of sincerity as a major problem.
Speaking to Sporty FM, Alagidede said dishonest leadership has contributed to the league’s struggles, stressing that many officials create unnecessary controversies that lead to chaos. His remarks follow the tragic death of football fan Nana Pooley during Nsoatreman’s match against Asante Kotoko.
“Most administrators are not sincere, and that is where the problem lies. We create situations that lead to violence and act as if it’s normal,” he stated.
Alagidede also criticised the financial state of the league, noting its lack of sponsorship, TV rights, and investment.
“Leagues in Tanzania and other parts of Africa are generating huge revenue, but the Ghana Premier League has no money. Club owners are funding everything from their own pockets,” he lamented.
He believes discussions should shift from hooliganism to financial sustainability, arguing that proper funding could allow clubs to offer competitive salaries and retain top talents instead of losing them to lower-tier leagues abroad.
