Bobby Banson, a respected private legal practitioner and lecturer at the Ghana Law School, has heaped praise on Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga for his exemplary leadership during the recent vetting of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
According to Banson, Mahama Ayariga demonstrated remarkable maturity by intervening to restore order among his colleagues during the chaotic session in Parliament on Thursday, January 30, 2025.
Banson said he was so impressed by Ayariga’s leadership that he referred to him as his “hero” of the day, citing his ability to control the situation with ease.
“Throughout the video, for me, he was my hero. The way he was able to stand and calm everyone down, even asking his colleagues to sit and ensuring they listened to him, was impressive. I think if there was anyone who showed leadership during that 10-minute fracas, I truly tip my hat to him,” he said.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, hosted by Samson Lardy Anyenini, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, he praised the MP’s conduct as a demonstration of true leadership.
Background
On Thursday, January 30, 2025, chaos erupted in Parliament during the vetting of the Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
According to Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Minority Chief Whip, the Appointments Committee had agreed to vet four nominees on January 30, 2025.
However, five were vetted, and two more were added, including the Minister of Foreign Affairs-designate, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and the Minister of Health-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, which led to the chaos.
As a result of the conflict between the Majority and Minority, microphones and tables were destroyed.
The Minority side was seen overturning the vetting table and destroying almost all the materials on it.
