The life of a physically challenged cobbler (shoemaker), believed to be in his 30s, ended tragically on Saturday when a private saloon car ran over him along the Sunyani-Abesim highway.

The Ghana News Agency (GNA) learnt that the deceased, popularly known in the area as “connection”, had gone for a phone charger from a friend and was returning home when the driver of the car lost control and hit him.

It happened around the Oti Yeboah Company Limited (OYCL) portion of the stretch, and when the GNA got to the scene around 1530 hours, the police had arrived to pick up the body, as several bystanders who had covered the body with leaves, discussed the crash.

His mobile phone, crutches, slippers and the phone charger were noticed behind the body.

The bystanders told the GNA that the driver of the car believed to be in his 70s, had since reported himself to the Abesim police station and was placed in custody, aiding police investigations.

An eyewitness, Kwabena Yeboah, told the GNA that the crash happened around 1500 hours when the driver of the car lost control and veered off the road, and some people, including food vendors along the stretch, fled for their precious lives.

However, the deceased could not escape due to his condition (right leg amputated) and was knocked down by the car, accordingly, killing him instantly.
