Ghanaian sports journalist Owuraku Ampofo has expressed deep frustration over the state of the Ghana Premier League following the violent clash that marred the Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman FC game. In a social media post, Ampofo lamented the long standing issue of hooliganism in the league, stating that the lack of strict punishments has allowed such incidents to persist.
“An unfortunate moment like this has been coming, the league has allowed hooliganism for years, not doing enough about it. No strict punishment, nothing.” He wrote.
His comments come in the wake of a tragic incident during the game, where Kotoko supporter lost his life following the violent clash. Ampofo described the loss as disappointing, and called for urgent reforms to restore safety and credibility in the league.
Now a life has been lost, which is extremely disappointing. May his soul Rest In Peace.
Big questions going forward now; how do you even revive this sinking league now? How do you assure fans of safety to revive interest? How do you attract sponsors?
