Ghanaian media personality MC Yaa Yeboah has openly expressed her disappointment over the recent appointment of Maame Efua Houadjeto as the new CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority. Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz, Yeboah made it clear that she had hoped for Abeiku Santana, a prominent figure in the country’s tourism sector, to assume the role.

According to Ghana Celebrities, MC Yaa Yeboah said, “I don’t know much about her, and I’m not sure what role she has played in the tourism sector. Congratulations to her, we will all support her to succeed. But I was disappointed because I expected Abeiku Santana to head that sector.”

Santana, the CEO and founder of Kaya Tours Ghana Limited, has been an influential player in promoting both local and international tourism. His efforts to elevate Ghana as a key travel destination have earned him widespread recognition within the industry. In 2017, Santana was appointed as Ghana’s Tourism Ambassador, a role that allowed him to drive several key initiatives aimed at bolstering the country’s tourism sector.

Yeboah, who has long been an advocate for Santana’s work, emphasized the extensive impact he has had in the field. “Abeiku was someone we were all rooting for, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” she added, noting his impressive track record and contributions to Ghana’s tourism industry.

Many in the tourism industry share Yeboah’s sentiments, as Santana’s long-standing dedication to promoting tourism has established him as a leading figure. Despite this, the President’s choice to appoint Maame Efua Houadjeto has taken many by surprise, with industry players like Yeboah hopeful that Houadjeto will bring fresh perspectives and success to the tourism sector.

With the tourism industry eagerly watching this transition, all eyes are on Houadjeto to see how she will shape the future of Ghana’s tourism development.

This debate reflects the ongoing conversations surrounding the leadership of Ghana’s tourism sector and what it means for the country’s growth in the global tourism arena.
