A prominent member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Kwame Jantuah, has described the brawl which derailed proceedings during the Appointments Committee vetting late Thursday as an “indiscipline of the highest order”.

The legal practitioner, who could not hide his disgust at the incident said lawmakers had not set a worthy example with their actions.

“It’s ludicrous. It was indiscipline of the highest order. Absurd. So when they got home last night what did they tell their children? You see, this sense of entitlement should stop. You are voted to Parliament to serve the people. Do you know the number of people who stayed up to watch the vetting last night?” he quizzed on Starr FM Weekly Review Segment with Naa Dedei Tettey.

He excoriated the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh for encouraging his colleagues to dismantle the set-up.

“What does that even mean? The table, is it his? Is it his property? Or is it the property of government?” he quizzed.

“In Ghana, the destruction of public property is considered a criminal offence,” he averred.

His comments come in the wake of a brawl which ensued in Parliament between Majority and Minority MPs over postponing the vetting of Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

The altercation led to the damage of equipment including microphones used during the hearing.

He said the assertions that Parliament was a master of its own laws did not hold when the nation’s laws had been openly violated.

During his criticism, he called on the newly constituted Constitutional Review Committee to look into any legislative powers that seek to excuse legislators from the law.

Jantuah wondered what the difference was between hooligans who attacked the courts and Members of Parliament engaged in fisticuffs.
