Liverpool transfer news as Reds eye $83 million star midfielder, 15-year-old starlet scouted

Liverpool is keeping tabs on Xavi Simons after the completion of his transfer from Paris Saint-Germain to RB Leizpig.

Simons first joined Leipzig on loan from PSG in 2023, and after a successful 18-month stint with the German club, that move was made permanent earlier this week.

Leipzig paid an initial $52 million to sign Simons but that fee could rise to $78-8 3milion with add-ons. The length of the contract, though, has raised eyebrows, with Simons only penning a two-and-a-half year deal with the club.

That does not give Leipzig much in the way of asset protection, and it appears as though the deal has been structured to smooth over an exit for Simons in the not-too-distant future.

Leipzig would reportedly be willing to listen to offers of between $73million and $83million, which would give the club a significant profit on the initial $52m fee it paid to PSG. German journalist Christian Falk reports that Liverpool, Manchester United and Manchester City are all monitoring Simons’ situation.

Meanwhile, Anfield Watch reports that Liverpool is keeping a close eye on Ecuador’s teenage center-back Deinner Ordonez.

Ordonez is currently at the South American Under-20 Championship, where he is the youngest player at 15 years old. Not only is he the youngest player to feature in this edition of the tournament, he is the youngest player to have made an appearance at the tournament in over a decade.

He represented his country in a 3-2 defeat by Brazil earlier this week, and it is reported that Liverpool scouts were in attendance to watch him play in the match. Considering his young age, Liverpool would have to wait until January 2028 at the earliest for him to be able to actually join the club, but it is possible for a deal to be wrapped up sooner than that.
