After a tumultuous night in Ghana’s Parliament characterized by violent disruptions during the vetting of President John Dramani Mahama’s nominees, the Minority returned to the House, leading to further disorder, according to reports from GhanaWeb.

This latest chaos was triggered when Minority Leader Alexander Kwamina Afenyo-Markin entered the session and immediately directed harsh criticisms at an individual present.

This individual was identified as the Clerk of the Appointments Committee, whom Afenyo-Markin accused of displaying political bias favoring the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

In a media interview, Frank Annoh-Dompreh provided insight into the situation. He claimed that the Clerk acted in bad faith while the Minority was engaged in a meeting.

Annoh-Dompreh recounted that the Majority Chief Whip had reached out to him, suggesting a meeting.

However, he requested a brief delay of about 30 minutes to conclude their caucus meeting.

He expressed discontent that the vetting proceeded without waiting for their return, calling it a sign of disrespect and bad faith.

Afenyo-Markin addressed the committee, emphasizing their intention to vet the health minister-designate, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.

He noted that the morning’s understanding was to have a discussion before the vetting began, and he found it surprising that the Clerk administered the oath without prior notice.

Despite the confusion, he affirmed their commitment to cooperating with the government to ensure the smooth formation of the cabinet and the approval of all appointments.
