NDC group petitions against DCE nominee over alleged falsified qualifications

A group of concerned members from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Asuogyaman Constituency of the Eastern region has petitioned the party’s headquarters, urging the withdrawal of one Bright Sikanku’s nomination for the position of District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Asuogyaman District.

The petition, submitted on January 29, 2025, accuses Sikanku, the current NDC Constituency Chairman, of submitting alleged false academic qualifications in his nomination forms.

In the petition, the group claims that Sikanku falsely listed a Diploma in Purchasing, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management from the Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) as part of his credentials.

However, an investigation revealed that Sikanku had never attended or graduated from GCTU, with the university providing a formal report to confirm that no such qualification was awarded to him.

“The falsification of academic credentials raises serious concerns about Sikanku’s integrity and his ability to serve in a high-profile public office like the DCE,” said Anthony Kwabena Sah, the convener of the petitioning group.

“For a position of such responsibility, we expect someone who embodies the values of honesty, accountability, and ethical leadership—qualities that Mr. Sikanku’s actions appear to contradict.”

The petitioners argue that such behaviour cannot be overlooked, particularly when it involves someone vying to represent the President at the district level.

“We cannot afford to have individuals with questionable integrity in positions of leadership,” said Sah.

In addition to the qualifications, the petition also refers to an earlier complaint against Sikanku involving the alleged sale of two Mahindra pickups, party assets, without proper accountability to the NDC.

“This issue of unaccounted sales of party property raises red flags about his management of public resources,” stated Akrofi Joseph, another signatory to the petition.
