Ineos double deal will transform Man Utd for the next decade – exactly what Ruben Amorim needed

Manchester United are investing heavily in the future, with two positions getting special treatment in 2025.

Ruben Amorim’s system at Old Trafford is very unique.

The head coach of Manchester United plays a 3-4-2-1. But in his version, the wing-backs are effectively wingers who are expected to run up and down all game long.

In order to play in this offensive winger-back role, players who occupy these roles must be physical, quick and offer plenty going forward.

Amorim has run into problems with this position for these reasons, with a lack of options who tick those boxes at the club, which explains Amad Diallo being used on the right.

Ineos appointed Amorim knowing this – you would imagine – and therefore 2025 so far has seen United’s transfer incomings dominated by wing-backs.

Diego Leon has already signed from Paraguay – he will join in the summer – and now a double move, inspired by the work of Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell, could set United for a decade.

Manchester United could sort wing-back roles for the next decade

With Leon still very raw, United have doubled down on a desire to bolster the wing-back positions, with Patrick Dorgu.

The 20-year-old Danish wing-back is expected to sign with United over the weekend after prolonged negotiations with Lecce saw a £24.7m initial fee agreement reached.

Dorgu and Leon combined could lock down the left side for at least a decade if they fulfil their potential. But United are already looking at transforming the right side in the summer with Geovany Quenda.

United are eyeing a summer swoop for Quenda, with a more than reasonable £33m price tag placed on the Portuguese youth international.

This would see United completely revolutionise the wing-back roles for Amorim in the space of just six months – for a combined £58m, which could be a bargain.

Having these two top-of-class talents who are perfectly suited to the winger-back role will improve United tenfold and is exactly what Amorim needs to make this system work.

Geovany Quenda and Patrick Dorgu are Ruben Amorim’s dream wing-backs

Amorim could not ask for a better wing-back combination than Dorgu and Quenda, with their attacking output second to none.

According to Data MB, Dorgu ranks as Europe’s best-attacking full-back under the age of 23, with an attacking output score of 84.

Meanwhile, Quenda is in his first season as a professional and yet already boasts stats which stack up against Dorgu.

It is very exciting that United could have this pair on the wings with players like Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes inside.

The pair raise United’s physical floor while being much better fits than the current full-backs at the club.

With the recruitment Ineos is planning, this year could very well see United become a force to be reckoned with once again – but we need to wait and see how this plays out.

Hypothetically, it could be very special.
