Liverpool had a good week in the Champions League despite being beaten by PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds knew they were already set to finish in the top two of the inaugural league phase having won each of their previous seven games.
And although a young Liverpool team lost out in Eindhoven, it did not stop the Reds marching to the top of the Champions League table.
Liverpool’s prize in the next round will be a tie against Monaco, Brest, Benfica, or a tough-looking match-up against PSG.
Before then, though, Liverpool can sit back and enjoy Man City taking on Bayern Munich or Real Madrid in the play-off round, as well as the possibility of other big sides dropping out of the competition.
And as they do that, the Liverpool owners will be counting a quite considerable amount of cash which has just boosted their accounts.
Liverpool get £84m cash injection
Despite rhetoric to the contrary, Liverpool are a very well run football club.
The current contract situations are a mess – that is certainly true – and there is rightful frustration over a lack of transfer activity.
But given what their team often achieve on the pitch, Fenway Sports Group are definitely getting it right somewhere along the line.
And as they tuck money away for a rainy day, The Athletic report that FSG are set to bank a whopping £83.8m for Liverpool coming first in the Champions League league phase.
That is reportedly based on prize money per match won, as well as final league position and simply qualifying for the last-16, too.
Liverpool are also said to be among the highest earners for TV rights and are also being rewarded monetarily for their historic success in the competition.
How much more could Liverpool earn?
£84m is an incredible number and lays bare the benefit being in the Champions League has for Liverpool.
With the Reds already among the favourites to win the tournament this season, there is a real chance that they can add significantly more to the coffers, too.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool can add a further accumulative total of £47m if they go all the way and lift the trophy.
The Reds are also said to earn between £3-4m per matchday at Anfield on top of that, with at least one more home game now guaranteed.
Unfortunately, it is also suggested that there ‘is no sign’ this extra cash boost will be put to use in the transfer market if FSG believe it is not necessarily needed.
