Gifty Klenam displaying her NDC membership card
A former Member of Parliament of Lower West Akim in the Eastern Region, Gifty Klenam, on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defected to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a video shared by TV3 on their Instagram page on Thursday, January 30, 2025, it showed Gifty beaming with smiles, while proudly displaying her membership card of the NDC.
She remarked, “This is my new family card, NDC ey3 zu.”
Gifty Klenam, who previously served as an MP on the ticket of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), won the Lower West Akim seat twice, in 2008 and 2012.
However, she faced a setback in 2016 when she lost her bid in the NPP’s parliamentary primaries.
Throughout the 2024 general election campaign season, Klenam openly supported Alan Kyerematen, a former NPP member who left the party after losing the flagbearer contest, to subsequently form the Movement for Change.
Before becoming an MP, Gifty worked as an industrialist, farmer and CEO of Sunharvest Company Limited.
