Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois acknowledged that they should not be afraid of anyone ahead of the possible clash with Manchester City in the round of 16 of the Champions League, and recalled the recent clashes against Pep Guardiola’s team.
Manchester City or Celtic will be Real Madrid’s opponents in the Champions League play-offs after failing to qualify directly for the last 16 by finishing eleventh in the league phase.
“It’s what it is, we haven’t lost today, it’s been in other games. We have to play in the play-offs, we are ready, we are in good form and we don’t have to be afraid of anyone. It’s what it is and we’ll give it our all,” he said.
“It has already happened to us in other play-offs, last year, two and three years ago…. If we play City, we know that to win the Champions League you have to beat the best. They are a very difficult team and we have to fight for it,” he added on “Movistar +”.
Courtois made a positive assessment of the clean sheet win away to Brest that extends Los Blancos’ good momentum. “It wasn’t an easy game but we defended well, played well and scored goals,” he said.
“We are happy with the win, we have to keep working now with Espanyol to continue well in LaLiga first, then with the Cup, the derby, then the Champions League. There are a lot of games in a short space of time but we want to keep winning,” he added.
