The Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has announced plans to embark on a nationwide tour next week to evaluate the state of roads across the country.
Speaking in an interview with JoyNews on Thursday, January 23, 2025, the minister emphasised his commitment to fulfilling President John Dramani Mahama’s pledge to improve road infrastructure in the country.
“We are determined to do what the president promised. I am going to go on a nationwide tour to take a fresh look at the current state of roads before we start addressing these issues next week. This tour will allow me to assess the situation and report back to the president,” he noted.
He extended an invitation to the media to accompany him on the tour, pointing out the importance of transparency and keeping citizens informed.
“I encourage you (the media) to join me so we can make disclosures to the people of this country,” he added.
President Mahama, while addressing newly sworn-in ministers at the Jubilee House on Thursday, January 23, 2025, underscored the challenging nature of Governs Agbodza’s role.
“Mr. Governs Agbodza, you probably have one of the most difficult jobs. Everybody in Ghana is complaining about bad roads. You have the duty not only to maintain the existing roads but also to provide new roads for smoother transportation,” he stated.
The upcoming tour is expected to provide a clearer understanding of the nation’s road infrastructure challenges and pave the way for decisive action.
