The soldier falls to the ground while in a fight with a civilian
In the past, the camouflaged uniform of a soldier evoked fear and respect among many civilians in Ghana, but that is no longer the case in recent times.
Now, some civilians have become so daring that they even engage military personnel in physical confrontations and, in some instances, beat them up.
However, this worrying development has been widely condemned by a section of the public, especially security analysts.
A video that has been shared on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, shows a member of the Ghana Armed Forces and a civilian in a violent confrontation near the National Mosque in Kanda.
In the short scuffle, the soldier is seen falling to the ground. Bystanders subsequently intervened, preventing further escalation. However, it remains unclear what led to the altercation.
During the just-ended December 7, 2024, general elections, some military personnel were involved in an altercation with a civilian in Obuasi East in the Ashanti Region.
In a video, the military personnel are seen asking people nearby to stop filming them with their phones during the engagement and to allow them entry to the polling center. However, the civilians ignored their warnings.
This infuriated the military personnel, leading to a heated confrontation in which one soldier attacked an individual. Concerned residents eventually separated those involved in the scuffle.
The civilian could be heard telling the military personnel, “Get away. If you try, you will see. Where are you going?”
One of the two military men responded, saying, “Stop taking the video, allow me to go, and don’t touch me.”
When the individual refused to give way, the military personnel resorted to fighting to push through.
