Nigerian actors and actresses who you didn’t know have passed away. Number 3 is unbelievable

The Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, has produced some of the most iconic and talented actors and actresses over the years. These stars entertained us with their exceptional skills and unforgettable performances, becoming household names in the process.

However, the harsh reality of life is that some of these beloved celebrities are no longer with us. While their legacies live on through their works, their passing often comes as a surprise to many fans.

In this article, we take a closer look at some Nigerian actors and actresses who have sadly left us ;

1.Sam Loco Efe  died (August 7, 2011)

Born: 25th August, 1945

The passing of Sam Loco Efe got the whole Nigeria crying on the day that it was announced. The actor popular for his roles starred in countless movies including Alice My First Lady, Osoufia and the Wise Men, and Slow Motion. 

The beloved actor passed in a hotel room in Owerri where he was editing a film. He passed away on August 2011 aged 66.

2.Amaechi Muonagor. died (24th March, 2024)

Born: 20th August, 1962

Amaechi Muonagor was a veteran Nigerian actor, comedian, and movie producer. He was nominated for the 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards for Best actor. He joined Nollywood in 1998 and starred in many movies including Taboo 1 (1989), Aki and Pawpaw, Karishika (1998), and Aki na Ukwa (2002), Igodo (1999)

In 2016, it was reported that Amaechi was suffering from diabetes and had left the film industry. In 2023, he suffered from a stroke that resulted in partial paralysis of his left leg. On 24 March 2024, Amaechi passed away of kidney failure, at the age of 62.

3.John Ikechukwu Okafor died (2 March 2024)

Born: October 17, 1961

John Okafor popularly known as Mr. Ibu, was a Nigerian Veteran actor and comedian. He appeared in over 200 Nollywood movies including those from the popular Mr. Ibu series.

Okafor, who had been battling illness since 2023, passed away from cardiac arrest at the age of 62 on Saturday at Evercare Hospital in Lekki, Lagos State. President Bola Tinubu and other prominent Nigerians joined industry stakeholders mourned the beloved actor.

4.Ada Ameh died (17th July, 2022)

Born: 15th May, 1974

Ada Ameh was a Nigerian actress who spent over two decades in the movie industry and was notable for her character as Anita in the 1996 movie titled Domitilla and as Emu Johnson in the award-winning Nigerian television series titled The Johnsons.

Ameh died after collapsing in Warri on 17 July 2022 at the age of 48. She suffered from mental health issues prior to her death. 

5.Bruno Iwuoha died (10th April, 2021)

Born: 6th October, 1952

Actor Chief Bruno Obinna Iwuoha passed away on 10th April 2021. He won the Best Supporting Actoraward at the 3rd Africa Movie Academy Awards for his performance in the movie “Sins of the Flesh”.

Veteran Nollywood actor, Bruno Iwuoha, has died on at the age of 68, after a prolonged battle with diabetes.
