Peter Crouch claims Chelsea player ‘deserves a shot’ in the Premier League after Heidenheim display

Chelsea had their toughest test in Europe so far this season on Thursday evening against Heidenheim, but they still came through it to secure another win.

Chelsea continued their dominance in the Conference League with a 2-0 away victory against German club Heidenheim. However, the Bundesliga side threatened offensively and had a couple of goals ruled out for offside.

Christopher Nkunku and Mykhailo Mudryk scored second-half goals for the Blues to earn them three points. Therefore, they return to the top of the Conference League group phase because of four wins from four in the competition.

Chelsea fans raved about Nkunku’s performance at Heidenheim, where he scored to make it five goals in four group matches.

Peter Crouch super impressed by Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen

Peter Crouch singled out Chelsea’s Filip Jorgensen, 22, for his spectacular performance on Thursday against Heidenheim. The young goalkeeper kept a clean sheet for his side after making several eye-catching saves.

In fact, Crouch has made the argument that it could be time for him to replace Robert Sanchez as the club’s number one in-between the sticks.

When asked if Jorgensen should be Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper, Crouch told TNT Sports (7:40pm, 28 November): “Chelsea didn’t have it all their own way tonight. They had to rely on Jorgensen quite a few times. I think he deserves a shot, I have to say. There’s been a lot of talk around [Robert] Sanchez, there’s been a few mistakes, and he looks nervy at times. Every time I’ve seen him (Jorgensen) play, he hasn’t put a foot wrong.”

Jorgensen is still waiting to make his Premier League debut after joining the Blues in the summer, but surely he’s applying a lot of pressure on first-choice goalkeeper Sanchez with these strong cup displays.

Chelsea believe Jorgensen perfectly suits Maresca’s system. So far this season, the gloveman has proven that he’s excellent with the ball at his feet and excels playing out from the back. He’s also a colossus shot-stopper with fantastic reflexes, too.

Filip Jorgensen dazzles against Heidenheim

Yet again, Jorgensen gave a great account of himself with another European performance in Chelsea colours.

Here are the 22-year-old keeper’s individual statistics from the away win at Heidenheim via FOTMOB:

Jamie O’Hara doesn’t think Sanchez is good enough to start for Chelsea, and he’s not the only pundit to doubt the Blues goalkeeper.

Do the Blues have the answer for their problem in net right under their nose with Jorgensen?
