A round-up of the latest Liverpool news with an update on Alisson Becker’s injury and Real Madrid add a new Reds ace to their transfer targets with Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Thibaut Courtois warns Real Madrid to ‘keep a close eye’ on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah
Real Madrid visit Liverpool on Wednesday night for matchday five in the league phase of the Champions League, and Thibaut Courtois has warned the Galacticos to ‘keep a close eye’ on Mohamed Salah. The Blancos goalkeeper fears the forward can make a difference at Anfield.
Liverpool were the best side in the Champions League in the first four matches with the only perfect record. Salah also helped the Merseyside outfit to wins over Bologna with a goal and an assist, at RB Leipzig with an assist and at home to Bayer Leverkusen with a pair of assists.
The 32-year-old’s efforts in Europe this season even put Salah atop the assists chart across four games as the only one with four. So, Courtois is adamant that Real Madrid must stay on top of Salah if Carlo Ancelotti’s Galacticos are to seal their third win of the term at Liverpool.
Courtois told RM Play: “Salah is a special player. He makes the difference at Liverpool. He is very good and we will have to keep a close eye on him.”
Alisson Becker misses Liverpool training through injury before facing Real Madrid
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is likely to lean on Caoimhin Kelleher to start at home to Real Madrid after Alisson Becker missed training amid the Brazilian’s ongoing rehabilitation for an injury. That is according to David Lynch, who reports the goalkeeper was absent on Tuesday.
Alisson is still yet to return from the hamstring injury the 32-year-old sustained as Liverpool won 1-0 at Crystal Palace in the Premier League on October 5. He has now missed their last five top-flight matches, two Champions League ties and also a second EFL Cup tie this term.
Slot has also confirmed that Alisson remains unavailable for Liverpool ahead of hosting Real Madrid at Anfield this Wednesday. The shot-stopper had recently resumed training and was thought to be close to making a return, but Kelleher is due to enjoy a continued run in goal.
Real Madrid add Ryan Gravenberch to their transfer shortlist with Trent Alexander-Arnold
Real Madrid may use Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool to scout another transfer target after including Ryan Gravenberch in their shortlist alongside Trent Alexander-Arnold. That is according to Marca, which reports that Los Blancos want a midfield enforcer.
Gravenberch has impressed Real Madrid with his efforts at Anfield after securing a key role under Liverpool head coach Arne Slot this season. The Dutchman has relished his chance to anchor the Reds’ engine room under his compatriot having struggled for games last season.
Jurgen Klopp favoured Wataru Endo over Gravenberch during the German’s final season in charge of Liverpool. He only started the latter in 12 of his 26 Premier League appearances over a potential 31 games but Slot has started Gravenberch in all 12 available games so far.
