Why a visit to Switzerland could land Man City star Erling Haaland in prison

Manchester City star Erling Haaland could be jailed for a day in Switzerland for an unpaid fine.

Per Blick, Haaland could end up in trouble the next time he visits Switzerland. He could spend a day in prison for non-payment of a fine. The news comes amid rumours of the striker penning a new long-term deal with reigning English champions Manchester City that could see him earn more than £100m in wages.

The Blick report also adds that the striker did not pay a fine worth 60 francs which is around €65, a paltry sum, and now could end up in jail. However, the striker could avoid the prison sentence by paying the amount to the authorities on his next visit to the country. Such a situation though is unlikely to happen as the fine amount is insignificant for a professional footballer of his stature.

Haaland’s father, Alfie-Inge, left Norway in 2023 to permanently settle in Switzerland. The player is likely to visit his father during Christmas and will aim to settle the legal issue.

For now, the 24-year-old remains committed to his team and will be next seen in action on Saturday as Pep Guardiola’s men face Tottenham in the Premier League in a away fixture.
