Kwadwo Nsafoah Poku, a member of the campaign team of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has cautioned against the politicization of the expired rice saga revealed by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.

Speaking on TV3’s KeyPoints program on Saturday, November 23, 2024, Kwadwo Poku noted that the issue borders on criminality and must be viewed purely from that perspective.

He disclosed that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was alarmed by the development and has promised to launch an investigation into it if elected as President of the country in the 2024 elections.

Kwadwo Poku explained that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is concerned about the welfare of children who might have been exposed to the supposedly expired rice and that a full-scale investigation will be launched to unearth the culprits.

“It is not an NPP or NDC issue. It is not a political issue. He has documentation that mentions Buffer Stock, the FDA, and Lamens, which is a private company. None of the persons and institutions is standing for elections. This is a matter of criminality. It is a matter of criminality if proven to be true.

“The CID should be finishing their investigations and prosecuting people. I have seen people trying to politicize it, but this is not a political case. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will investigate this thing if he becomes the president,” he said on TV3.

Kwadwo Poku’s view echoes the position of Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa that Lamens engaged in criminality and must be prosecuted for their actions.

“This is a company that was cited in the 2021 Auditor General’s report, and now they are engaging in the criminal act of rebagging expired rice,” Ablakwa said on JoyNews.
