The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed concerns over what it perceives as discriminatory practices by Ghana’s Electoral Commission (EC) ahead of the upcoming elections. Mohammed Abdul Malik Cheno, Supervisor of the NDC agents, raised these concerns in a live interview with Citi TV (Channel One TV).
Cheno accused the EC of engaging in actions designed to demoralize the party’s base, citing delays in delivering ballots to the Volta Region, a known stronghold of the NDC. “As we speak, the Ashanti Region has received their ballots, the Eastern Region has received their ballots, and the Central Region has received their ballots. Yet, the Volta Region is still waiting,” he lamented.
He further alleged that the EC has re-awarded the printing contract for the Volta Region’s ballots to a different company, causing significant delays. “We are not even sure when the ballots will be ready, and elections are just a few weeks away,” Cheno stated.
The NDC has expressed dissatisfaction with the situation, claiming that it undermines confidence in the electoral process. “We are not happy about the whole process,” he emphasized, pointing out that such delays could impact voter confidence in the region.
