Jordan Ayew’s injury is not that bad, says Leicester City Manager

Leicester City manager Steve Cooper has suggested that Jordan Ayew might still feature in this weekend’s Premier League clash against Chelsea, despite picking up an injury during international duty.

The 31-year-old forward impressed during Ghana’s 1-1 draw with Angola in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier, scoring a stunning free-kick in Luanda. However, he sustained an injury in that match, which ruled him out of Ghana’s final qualifier against Niger.

Speaking during Thursday’s pre-match press conference, Cooper provided an update, revealing that the injury was less severe than initially feared.

“It’s not a serious injury, contrary to some reports,” Cooper clarified.

“The hope is he may be available for the weekend, but we’re a little bit inconclusive on that for the moment,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ayew’s Ghanaian teammate Abdul Fatawu wasn’t as fortunate. The injury he sustained during international duty has sidelined him for the rest of the season.

Ayew has been a key player for Leicester City this season, scoring twice in the Premier League, including a dramatic last-minute winner against Southampton in matchweek eight.
