This season has so far been an extremely enjoyable one for every Liverpool supporter.

Despite anxiety over how the Reds would get on in a post-Jurgen Klopp world, the team have flourished under Arne Slot.

Sitting top of the Premier League and the Champions League heading into the festive period, things could hardly be better for Liverpool.

Unfortunately, though, away from matters on the pitch, there is a shadow hanging over things at Anfield.

As the clock ticks down on the contracts of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, fans do not know which of their heroes will still be at the club next season.

And as rumours continue that Alexander-Arnold is waiting on a move to Real Madrid, the Liverpool right-back has been urged to put the matter to bed in public.

Trent Alexander-Arnold told to ‘cut the nonsense’

Although hope remains that all three of these huge members of the Liverpool squad will sign on to stay with the Reds, things are starting to get nervy.

It’s inarguable that when players go so deep towards the end of the contracts they end up leaving more often than not.

What is making things more anxious for supporters is the silence coming from the player’s camps. Of the three, Alexander-Arnold has easily been the quietest on his future. And speaking to Anfield Agenda, Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has urged Trent to signal his intentions.

“We need Sky and those to put a microphone in front of him and say ‘look, do you not want to stay at Liverpool?’ Somebody needs to ask the question,” says MacAnthony, who is a Liverpool fan.

“Because there’s no doubt in my mind they’re probably offering him a contract to make him the highest paid player at the club. So, the question to Trent would be, let’s cut the nonsense, do you want to stay at Liverpool or do you not want to stay at Liverpool?

“Do you want to go to Real Madrid, if that’s the goal here, just come out and say it because no one’s going to hate you for it.

“Just ask him the question,” the chairman continues. “Somebody needs to grow a set of cajones during one of these Liverpool games, get him in front of the camera and just say ‘Trent, are you staying at Liverpool or are you going. And don’t give us the apolitical, oh we’re in talks. Do you want to go to Real Madrid or do you want to sign a new contract with Liverpool?’”

Trent set to decide on Liverpool future

While it would be nice if Alexander-Arnold were so open about what his intentions were, we can’t see it happening.

As long as negotiations are continuing, the Liverpool academy graduate will remain tight lipped as ever.

Ultimately, though, there will be signs that Alexander-Arnold has chosen to leave. If we see speculation ramped up over interest from clubs other than Madrid, for example, that could be one of them.

In the meantime, it will also become clear from a playing point of view whether Alexander-Arnold is leaving or not.

The 26-year-old is going to have to decide soon. And when he does, there is likely to be little place to hide.
