John Dramani Mahama, Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has pledged to recruit community health volunteers nationwide to conduct house-to-house visits and monitor the health of Ghanaians.

The former president explained that this initiative is aimed at identifying and addressing minor health issues early, preventing them from developing into serious conditions, according to a report by citinewsroom.com.

He also reiterated his commitment to improving healthcare access and outcomes across the country.

“We will deploy community health volunteers in every community, who will go from house to house, engaging residents about their health and identifying issues such as breast cancer and cervical cancers. This will enable quick referrals to the nearest health facility,” he noted.

Mahama emphasised that the initiative is designed to expand healthcare access and prevent minor illnesses from escalating into serious, costly health problems.

He also outlined plans to launch the Ghana Medical Care Trust, known as Mahama Cares, to support the management of chronic diseases, including kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, and sickle cell disease.

“In addition, we will launch the Ghana Medical Care Trust, also known as Mahama Cares, to support the management of chronic diseases such as kidney disease, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, sickle cell, and sickle cell diseases. This is going to be a trust into which dedicated funds will be put,” he added.

He stated that dedicated funds would be allocated to the Medical Trust to help in the treatment and management of these chronic conditions.
