Aisha Huang is serving jail term for engaging illegal mining activities
Three individuals have been charged in connection with the high-profile Aisha Huang case, facing serious allegations related to illegal mining operations. The charges include conspiracy to undertake mining without a license, violating key sections of Ghana’s Criminal Offences Act and the Minerals and Mining Act.
Li Wei Guo, the first accused, is facing charges for allegedly making false representations to obtain a work permit in violation of Section 52(1)(e) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
Shi Mei Zhi is charged with making false representations to obtain residence permits, also under Section 52(1)(e) of the Immigration Act, 2000 (Act 573).
Nana Kwame Opoku, alias Obolo, the third accused, is charged with facilitating the participation of non-Ghanaians in illegal mining activities, contrary to Section 99(5)(b) of the Minerals and Mining Act, 2006 (Act 703), as amended.
The charges follow investigations initiated on September 14, 2022, after intelligence from the Ministry of National Security in Kumasi suggested involvement in illegal mining. The accused were arrested at their residence in Paraku Estates near Daaban in Kumasi, Ashanti Region.
The cross-examination of the second accused concluded on November 13, with the third accused beginning their defence on November 14. The case continues as authorities strive to enforce mining and immigration laws.
