The former Ghana international defender has said they have been in contact with the 25-year-old defender in an effort to lure him to represent the four-time African champions on the international stage

Black Stars coach Otto Addo has confirmed that the Ghana FA has contacted German-born Ghanaian defender Derrick Köhn over his nationality switch for the past two years.

The on-loan Werder Bremen left-back has been tipped to follow in the footsteps of Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdorffer as German-born players representing Ghana on the international stage.

”We spoke to Derrick two years ago, that’s no secret. In general, the following always applies: the players have to want to play, and one or two of those who have the opportunity may also be hoping for a call-up to play for Germany. Others have never been to Africa,”the former Borussia Dortmund talent nurturing gaffer, now at the helm of affairs at the west African superpowers said of the contact with the defender to transfermarkt.de as qouted by bild.

He continued: ”Many factors from all sides always play a role in such a decision, and that should not be underestimated. Sometimes the players don’t want to and then you have to accept that.”

Given his Ghanaian heritage, Derrick remains eligible to represent Ghana at the international level despite playing for the Germany U19 national youth team.
