A section of the Ghanaian public have expressed pessimism about the Black Stars’ chances of qualifying for the 2025 African Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco.

According to them, given the team’s poor run of results in the qualifiers, it is highly unlikely that they will win against Angola and Niger and stand a chance of sailing through even if Sudan lose their remaining two matches.

Others also asserted that due to the abysmal performance of the team, it would be favorable for Sudan, led by Ghanaian coach Kwasi Appiah, to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.

“Comparing Sudan to Ghana, they are way ahead of us, which was proven in the games we played against them. Even if we qualify, we won’t do anything exceptional at the tournament and might even disgrace ourselves.

“So I would say Sudan deserves to qualify over Ghana, so there is no need for calculation. Semenyo and Inaki’s performance for the team is worrying,” he said during the Sports Debate aired on GhanaWeb TV.

Another fan commented, “I think the probability of Ghana winning is very low because if we were playing Angola at home, that would have been better for us, but away there will be more pressure for us to win. For Niger, it will be a straight win for Ghana. I am not sure we can qualify for the AFCON.”

One individual indicated that it will take the grace of God for Ghana to qualify for the competition at this stage.

“With the performance of the team, it will take divine intervention for Ghana to qualify for the 2025 AFCON. Football in Ghana is in crisis from the local level to the national teams,” he said.

After four matches, Ghana are third in Group F with two points. Sudan are in second place with seven points, while Angola lead with twelve points.

Ghana will play Angola on November 15, 2024, and return to host Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on November 18, 2024.
