The Government of Ghana has released more than GH¢ 51 million in grants to support young entrepreneurs as part of its “YouStart” initiative, a nationwide programme focused on reducing youth unemployment.

The grant distribution, covering all 16 regions, aims to provide young business owners with essential financial assistance and mentorship to help create jobs in their communities.

The announcement came during the “Biggest Grant and Mentoring Expo” organized by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA), where Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Osei-Opare symbolically presented a cheque to recipients.

Representing President Akufo-Addo, she encouraged beneficiaries to make the most of the grant to generate employment opportunities and stimulate local economic growth.

“This grant is a powerful tool in your hands, so use it well to benefit others,” she urged.

Madam Osei-Opare highlighted the government’s focus on youth empowerment through “YouStart” as part of its broader agenda to alleviate poverty and boost job creation.

Trade Minister Kobina Tahir Hammond and GEA CEO Kosi Yankey-Ayeh echoed the government’s dedication to empowering young entrepreneurs.

Supported by the World Bank and Ghana’s National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP), the “YouStart” initiative remains central to Ghana’s economic development strategy, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable business growth and entrepreneurship.
