The Guinness World Records (GWR) office has debunked claims made by Ghanaian content creator Clementina Nkrumah, also known as Afua Nash, that she is about to embark on a world record for the longest eating marathon.

Afua Nash had promoted her attempt as a four-day, seven-hour, and 20-minute non-stop eating marathon, set to begin on Monday, November 11, 2024, and broadcast live on the Savage Room show at Afropod Studios.

The event garnered significant attention through various social media flyers.

However, following the trending news on X, GWR clarified on its official page that it no longer recognises records for extended eating marathons.

The office explained that it has updated its guidelines and now bases consumption records on the rate of consumption rather than duration.

“We no longer monitor records for eating over a long period of time, though we did in the past.

“Nowadays, we still have consumption records but they are based on the rate of consumption and are limited to a short time frame of up to three minutes, depending on the food,” the body posted on November 7, 2024.

Afua Nash has not yet responded to GWR’s statement, but the situation has sparked conversations about the authenticity of record-setting attempts, especially in light of Chef Smith’s recent scandal.
