The First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, has urged voters to support Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, in the December 7 election for continuity and economic prosperity in Ghana.
She also encouraged voters to elect all NPP parliamentary candidates to support Dr. Bawumia in delivering good governance.
The First Lady made these remarks during a campaign event in the Ablekuma Central Constituency, where she joined the parliamentary candidate, Mr. Jefferson K. Sackey, to share his vision for women in the area.
According to Mrs. Akufo-Addo, voting for the NPP is essential to realize the party’s positive plans for the country. She said that electing Dr. Bawumia would ensure the continuation of policies like Free Senior High School (SHS) and Agenda 111.
She stressed that the NPP is a “tried and tested” party that delivers on its promises.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo encouraged the women at the campaign to serve as NPP ambassadors, promoting the party’s achievements to secure votes for Dr. Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidates.
She specifically urged Ablekuma Central residents to vote for Mr. Sackey, describing him as a young, vibrant leader who has the people’s interests at heart. She cautioned that voting otherwise could hinder the country’s development and urged voters to choose wisely.
Despite challenges like COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war, Mrs. Akufo-Addo said that the Akufo-Addo-Bawumia administration has managed to keep the country on a positive track and that conditions are improving.
She appealed to Ghanaians to trust Dr. Bawumia to lead the country toward further prosperity.
Mr. Sackey shared his commitment to empowering women in the constituency by supporting their economic and social progress.
He pledged to expand a financing scheme he initiated for market women and complete the second phase of a market project in Sukura, which had been started by a former NPP MP but abandoned by the current NDC MP. Additionally, he promised to provide skills training and job opportunities to empower women and youth in the constituency.
The First Lady later moved to the Klottey Korle Constituency, where she joined Mr. Valentino Nii Noi Nortey, the NPP parliamentary candidate, to canvass for votes.
Mr. Nortey urged voters to consider the NPP’s commitment to healthcare, citing the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as a key achievement that has made healthcare more affordable and accessible. He promised to introduce a supplementary health card to enhance NHIS benefits if elected.
In terms of business development, Mr. Nortey said he would establish Small and Medium Banks to make funding more accessible to small business owners, reducing the difficulties associated with borrowing for business growth.
