Asante Kotoko SC midfielder Emmanuel Antwi has received his first call-up to the Ghana national team for the final rounds of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The 24-year-old, who joined Kotoko from Great Olympics at the start of the 2024-25 season, has impressed with his performances in the Ghana Premier League, making nine appearances and scoring once.
Antwi’s inclusion in head coach Otto Addo’s squad is a testament to his rapid rise in form and places him among the few home-based players selected for the crucial qualifiers.
He joins FC Samartex 1996 defender Isaac Afful and Nations FC captain Razak Simpson as the only domestic league players in the 23-man squad.
Ghana will face Angola at the Estadio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday, November 15, 2024, before returning home to play Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday, November 18.
The Black Stars currently sit third in Group F with two points from four matches, trailing leaders Angola and second-placed Sudan. To secure qualification for AFCON 2025 in Morocco, Ghana must win both games and hope for Sudan to lose their remaining fixtures.
With the pressure mounting, the team is determined to redeem themselves in what has been a challenging campaign.
