Viktor Gyokeres has broken his silence on a potential move to Manchester United after scoring four goals in Sporting Lisbon’s 5-1 win over Estrela.
Gyokeres smashed in a quadruple, including a 42-minute first half hat-trick, in a comprehensive victory for Ruben Amorim’s side.
The match was Amorim’s penultimate Liga Portugal game in charge of Sporting before he officially becomes Manchester United manager on November 11.
In the meantime, the rumour mill has already started to spin over the changes the 39-year-old will bring to Old Trafford – and who he could sign for the club.
Unsurprisingly, the first player that springs to mind when it comes to players he could bring with him from Sporting is Gyokeres.
The Sweden international had already smashed in 16 goals in all competitions this season – having scored 43 goals last season – before tonight, and took his tally to 20 with another remarkable display in front.
One of Europe’s most potent strikers, former Coventry star Gyokeres has been linked with a host of European giants – including the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool.
The £80 million-rated striker, though, will surely be on United’s radar, especially as a result of Amorim’s pending arrival in the North West.
Speaking after the game, Gyokeres was specifically asked about Amorim’s departure – and what that could mean for his future in Portugal.
He replied: “I’m sad that Amorim is leaving, he’s done amazing here.
“We will do the same job and keep the same faith in the team. We all wish him the best.”
Gyokeres then said: “I don’t know [if I will join United in the future]. I’m here, and as you can see, I enjoy it. It’s nothing I think about.
With 16 goals to his name this season, it’s not hard to understand why United might want him – but whether they can afford to bring him in before other clubs swoop remains to be seen.
