Sunday results

Sunday’s Premier League action saw some dramatic shifts in the standings as Crystal Palace secured their first win of the season, Liverpool slipped down, and Manchester United’s struggles continued.

Chelsea 2-1 Newcastle United

Chelsea continued their impressive start, edging out Newcastle in a 2-1 thriller. Cole Palmer stole the spotlight with a stunning strike from outside the box, beating Nick Pope at his near post early in the second half. Nicolas Jackson had put Chelsea ahead in the 18th minute after latching onto Pedro Neto’s clever pass, but Alexander Isak’s close-range finish levelled the score just 14 minutes later. Chelsea held firm to secure the victory.

Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham

Crystal Palace finally broke their winless streak, overcoming a sluggish Tottenham side thanks to Jean-Philippe Mateta’s decisive first-half goal. Mateta took advantage of a defensive lapse by Micky van de Ven, who was caught napping in possession deep in his own half.

West Ham 2-1 Manchester United

Manchester United’s woes deepened with a 2-1 defeat at West Ham, sealed by Jarrod Bowen’s stoppage-time penalty. United thought they had salvaged a point when Casemiro’s header cancelled out Crysencio Summerville’s 74th-minute opener. However, controversy struck late on when a VAR review prompted the referee to penalise Matthijs de Ligt for a challenge on Danny Ings, leaving United fuming as they suffered their third consecutive defeat at the London Stadium.

Arsenal 2-2 Liverpool

At the Emirates, a pulsating encounter ended in a 2-2 draw, with Mohamed Salah’s late equaliser rescuing a point for Liverpool. Arsenal, who were missing the suspended William Saliba, also lost Gabriel and Jurrien Timber to injuries during the second half, allowing Liverpool to mount a comeback.
