‘I Have Paused My Campaign to Seek Answers’ Following Arrest Warrant Controversy”

John Krugu, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate for Zebilla, has halted his campaign in response to the Attorney General’s recent decision to withdraw an appeal aimed at reinstating an arrest warrant for a man revealing the title of Bawku Naaba.

According to Adomonline on Sunday, October 27, 2024, this development has raised significant concerns about the stability in the Kusaug traditional area.

Krugu stated that the region has enjoyed a period of relative tranquility largely due to the government’s acknowledgment of Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the rightful Bawku Naaba. He voiced his worries that the withdrawal of the appeal could disrupt this peace.

“This is a government that previously went to court to secure an arrest warrant for the individual claiming the title, and I accepted this move when it was announced,” he stated.

He added that the subsequent quashing of the warrant and the Attorney General’s decision not to pursue further legal action were troubling.

The situation escalated after a Court of Appeal ruling invalidated the initial arrest warrant, a decision that reportedly has heightened tensions in Bawku.

“The appeal clearly outlined errors made by the judge, and yet, the error seemed to be corrected overnight,” Krugu noted, reflecting his frustration with the rapid changes in the legal proceedings.

As a result of these developments, Krugu has decided to temporarily suspend his campaign efforts. “I have paused my campaign to seek answers. Discussions are ongoing, and I strongly believe a resolution will be reached soon,” he said.

He also addressed rumors circulating among some members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that he has withdrawn from the race, clarifying, “That’s not true. If they think they can gain politically from this, they should wait and see what unfolds.”
