Ghana gears up to the ninth general elections since the country began yet another democratic experiment with the 1992 Constitution. The political atmosphere heightens as the polls draw closer.

Ahead of the crucial polls, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh, wife of NPP Running mate, Dr. Opoku-Prempeh, has made a pronouncement which has triggered varied reactions from Ghanaians.

Speaking in a video which was shared by Accra-based Citi FM on its verified Facebook page, Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh outlines that her main motive for entering mainstream politics is to help the poor and the less privileged in society.

She made the claims while campaigning for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to a group of women. She expressed gratitude for getting such a big platform to talk to the people, adding that he would use if influence to improve the livelihoods of people who are free less endowed communities.

Alma Pokua Adade-Prempeh urged the people to massively vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in the forthcoming December elections so she could leverage her position as the Second Lady of the country to improve the lives of the people.

Her pronouncement has been met with varied reactions. Opinions are sharply divided as those who stormed the comments section of Citi FM expressed mixed reactions.

While a section of commenters applauded her for thinking about the less privileged, others believe her claims are mere rhetorics aimed at swaying voters.

Below are comments from Ghanaians.

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) is on a desperate mission to become the first political party to win three consecutive presidential elections. The bookmakers have predicted a tight contest between the NDC and the NPP both in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
