Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in fine form under Arne Slot this season as the Reds find themselves at the top of the Premier League table.

The 26-year-old has also delivered a string of eye-catching displays for England after Gareth Southgate’s departure, although it remains to be seen what the future holds after Thomas Tuchel was announced as his successor earlier this month.

Usually singled out for his defensive frailties, Alexander-Arnold has actually been assured in that regard for club and country this season.

And if reports are to be believed, he’s been having one-on-one conversations with the new manager which involves a bit of constructive criticism.

Slot has already worked his magic on a handful of players in his short Liverpool career so far, with Curtis Jones, Ryan Gravenberch and Luis Diaz all exceeding expectations at the start of the new season.

A report from The Athletic states that Alexander-Arnold told the Dutchman that he wants to become a defender no one wants to come up against, with the new Liverpool boss also giving him a lot of feedback after ‘forensically’ analysing his games.

The 26-year-old is believed to be impressed by Slot’s attention to detail and his defending has greatly improved this season as he continues to deliver assured displays for club and country.

What’s the latest on Alexander-Arnold’s future?

With his contract set to expire next summer, Real Madrid have held meetings with Alexander-Arnold to discuss a possible transfer, although Liverpool remain locked in talks to tie him down to a new deal.

He has featured in every Premier League and UEFA Champions League game this season and has quickly become indispensable to Slot.

Losing the 26-year-old would be catastrophic for Liverpool, especially on a free transfer, so the Reds’ hierarchy must do whatever they can to keep him at the club.
