Residents of the Sagnarigu District have expressed frustration and anger towards their District Chief Executive (DCE), Felicia, accusing her of mismanaging and squandering the District Assembly Common Fund. They claim she has enriched herself using funds meant for community development. Their discontent was voiced at a recent community engagement, where constituents had anticipated Felicia’s presence to address their concerns. However, she was notably absent, which further fueled their suspicions.
According to the constituents, Felicia had little in terms of personal assets before taking on the DCE role. However, they allege that within a short span, she has been able to demolish her old home and build a new, self-contained house, all within less than a year. This rapid improvement in her living situation has raised questions among locals about her use of public funds intended for the community.
One resident shared their frustration, stating, “Felicia knows she hasn’t done any real development in our district. She avoids these community gatherings because she’s aware of what she’s done. She’s squandered the Common Fund money that should have been used for the people. Look at how quickly she was able to build a new house.”
The District Assembly Common Fund is designed to support development projects in the area, including improvements in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and social services. Sagnarigu constituents had high hopes that their community would benefit from these funds, yet many feel their expectations have not been met. They report seeing minimal improvements in their local facilities and infrastructure, which, they believe, is a result of the DCE’s alleged financial mismanagement.
“We need transparency and accountability in our district,” one resident voiced. “The funds are for everyone, not just for personal gains. If this continues, we will have no choice but to take this matter to the authorities.”
The absence of the DCE at the engagement left many questions unanswered. Constituents are now calling for an investigation into how the funds have been allocated during Felicia’s tenure as DCE, hoping for clarity and justice. They emphasize that the Common Fund should be dedicated to enhancing the lives of all district residents, rather than allegedly serving personal interests. As the Sagnarigu district awaits answers, frustration and mistrust continue to grow among the community members.
