Dimitar Berbatov argues ‘unbelievable’ Cristiano Ronaldo outperformed legendary former player in one major league

Dimitar Berbatov has dropped his boldest take to date after claiming ex-Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo is even better than one legendary former player.

Cristiano Ronaldo is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time and the Manchester United legend has had a long-lasting impact on the sport.

The 39-year-old Portuguese player made a name for himself at Old Trafford under Sir Alex Ferguson and lifted the first of his five Ballon d’Or awards at United.

During his first spell at United, Ronaldo lifted three Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two League Cups before his departure.

The legendary former United No 7 added to his legend after he completed his blockbuster move to Real Madrid, with Ronaldo signing for the club in 2009.

Ronaldo went on to become Real Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and lifted four more Ballon d’Or awards and four more Champions League titles.

Following his legendary spell at Madrid, the former United superstar signed for Juventus in 2018 and captured two Coppa Italia titles and two Serie A trophies.

Berbatov on Man Utd legend Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo enjoyed a successful first season back at Manchester United after he left Juventus and returned to Old Trafford in a blockbuster move in 2021.

However, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s second spell ended in 2022 after his falling out with United manager Erik ten Hag and he made his exit from Old Trafford.

Ronaldo returned to football in 2023 after he completed a sensational move to Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr and is still with the Saudi Arabia-based club.

“He always had the mentality about wanting to become the best player in the world and he didn’t hide it,” Dimitar Berbatov said on Rio Ferdinand’s YouTube channel.

“He was not afraid to say that even in the dressing room. But he also worked hard for it.

“Everything he achieved, he deserved and he’s a great example for every young player coming through to follow. Even his body, he worked for it.

Berbatov claims Ronaldo is better than one legend

Berbatov shared the pitch with Ronaldo at Old Trafford and has now claimed that the Al Nassr star would “always” be the best player in the league he played in.

The 43-year-old former United striker insisted that his ex-club teammate was even better than Brazil legend Ronaldo, who is one of the best strikers of all time.

Berbatov argued that Ronaldo, AKA ‘R9,’ was the “best in Spain” during his time in La Liga with Real Madrid and Barcelona, but he “wasn’t the same in Italy.”

“He’s [Ronaldo] still playing and still hasn’t achieved all his dreams because he has set them so high,” he added.

“For me, he’s one of the greatest ever, no matter where he played, he was always the best player in that league. I don’t think any other player did that before.”

“Ronaldo Nazario was the best in Spain, but he wasn’t the same in Italy. I’m not taking anything away from him, every generation has their own legends. But Cristiano and [Lionel] Messi, they are just unbelievable.”
