Jamie Carragher spots what Arne Slot did for the first time against Chelsea and it will delight Liverpool fans

Jamie Carragher noticed what Arne Slot did for the first time in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday.

Curtis Jones scored the winner early in the second half after Nicolas Jackson cancelled out Mo Salah’s opener, with the Reds returning to the top of the table with the huge victory.

They are now one point clear of Manchester City going into a huge trip to the Emirates to play fellow title challengers Arsenal next week.

The victory was a monumental one as it was a tough test for Slot’s men against a top six side.

The Reds passed it and are already excelling under Slot’s new approach.

The Dutchman has appeared much calmer than his predecessor Jurgen Klopp but he showed he does have that edge to him at the weekend.

Slot was booked for losing his temper on the touchline and there was another instance of him acting animatedly when Darwin Nunez was penalised for what looked like a shoulder barge.

Klopp regularly played off the crowd in his incredible tenure but Liverpool legend Carragher feels we saw Slot buy in for the first time.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: “Slot is not as emotional as Klopp, but he got wrapped up in the game today. It was the first Anfield atmosphere he’s been involved in.

“When Liverpool were under the cosh, you could see his reaction when Darwin Nunez got a foul given against him, you could see he showed elements of Jurgen Klopp – but he is a different manager.

“I think what the supporters are enjoying is that he is being himself. He is not trying to play up to being someone else.”

Having made just the one signing in the summer, Slot’s side have been plodding on nicely and their only loss came at home to Nottingham Forest.

They beat Manchester United 3-0 at Old Trafford but Carragher believes the Chelsea win was a statement one that proved they are the real deal.

“It almost feels like the first really big game or result for Slot at Anfield,” Carragher added.

“We’ve spoken before about the atmosphere, but Anfield really gets going in games like this. Liverpool were under the cosh at times and they needed the Anfield crowd to get them over the line.

“It feels like a really big win and Arne Slot knows that. Liverpool weren’t at their best but they found a way to win and that’s been the hallmark of so many great Liverpool teams in the past.”
