Musibau Aziz hits brace to help Ghana tame Niger

The Black Satellites secured their perfect start to the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship with a convincing win over Niger on Sunday.

Ghana recorded their first win at the ongoing tournament in Togo after a comeback 2-2 draw with Benin in Group A.

The male national U20 side inflicted a 2-0 victory over Niger at the Stade Municipal in Lome, Togo, to keep their hopes of securing a qualification to the semis of the 2024 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship alive.

Coach Desmond Ofei made three changes in his team after drawing in the Group A opener on Thursday as Young Apostles goalkeeper Benjamin Twum, Hayford Adu Boahen of Cheetah FC, and Real Sociedad’s Andrews Adjabeng were handed starting berths.

The Nigeriens were resolute in the first half by holding the Black Satellites to a scoreless draw and thanks to goalkeeper Soulemana Yacouba, who denied Jerry Afriyie and Dennis Appiah-Kubi from scoring before the break.

In the second half, Ghana continued their impressive performance to score two goals after the hour mark courtesy of a brace from Musibau Aziz.

The Dreams FC budding talented forward opened the scoring for the Black Satellites with a spectacular long-range strike in the 64th minute of the game.

Nine minutes later, Musibau Aziz notched up his second goal of the day when he brilliantly slotted a pass from Afriyie into the empty net to seal the victory for the Black Satellites.

Ghana will face Togo in the final Group A game at the Stade Municipal on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

The Black Satellites are hoping to secure one of the qualification slots for the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
