A disastrous situation has just developed for West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus.
But it should actually be very good news for the Hammers.
West Ham signed Mohammed Kudus from Ajax for £38 million in the summer of 2023, and his fine form for us has already attracted the attention of some of the world’s biggest clubs including the likes of Barcelona.
The Ghanaian attacker has been sensational for the Hammers over the past 14 months, although he has made a slow start to the 2024/25 season under Julen Lopetegui.
The Hammers head coach fell out with Kudus during the half-time break of our draw with Brentford a couple of week ago.
However, the West Ham owners have apparently already contacted Kudus’s representatives in order to explain to them that everything is fine between the player and manager.
Hopefully that’s all behind Kudus now, but he’ll be feeling very low this morning about something else.
Mohammed Kudus disaster is very good news for West Ham
The Hammers forward has endured an incredibly disappointing week with his country.
And things hit rock bottom for him last night.
Ghana lost 2-0 to Sudan, leaving then on two points from four games – five points adrift of second place.
In order for Kudus and his teammates to qualify for the next edition of AFCON, they need to win both of their final two games AND for Sudan to lost both of their two matches, as explained by Modern Ghana.
AFCON 2025 is scheduled to take place between 21st December 2025 and 18th January 2026.
Ghana last failed to qualify for AFCON way back in 2004, so if the same happens this time around, it would be a disaster for Kudus and his teammates.
The 24-year-old will probably feel more down than most, because he was recently named as the new Ghana captain.
However, the disastrous situation that the former Ajax man currently finds himself in with Ghana is actually very good news for the Hammers…
West Ham will have Kudus available for selection next winter
The good news for the Hammers is that we won’t lose Kudus for around a month during the really busy Christmas and New Year Premier League schedule.
Unless something miraculous happens, Ghana will not qualify for AFCON.
And whilst that will be a blow for Kudus personally, it will be great news for West Ham.
We lost the 24-year-old for a few weeks at the end of December and early January of this year, and it was very hard indeed to cope without him.
It’s now looking like the same thing won’t happen again.
And that will be a major boost for the Hammers.
